Harmonigraph

The harmonigraph dress is an exploration of the limits and possibilities of 3D printing in fashion. The design originates from a circle sliced into three spirals proportioned according to the Fibonacci sequence. Each spiral grows from the rib cage to envelop a different portion of the body, shrouding the anatomy in a harmonic silhouette. The form explores the relationship between body and cell, where the realization of a part is inseparable from the whole. The design of the patterning systems is critical to the effect produced, as both the overall form and patterning evolve in tandem. Underlying this is a belief that the “parts” both do and affect - that patterns can respond to certain conditions (ie flexibility and movement) and produce novel emotions in people.
